My First Week at Itec

I chose ITEC for my week of work experience to get an insight into office life and to see the different types of jobs that are available and how employees work in that environment.

23rd July 2015

On my first day I had a tour around the ITEC building and I was shown the health and safety aspects like fire exits and first aid kits that were situated around the building. After my introduction, I spoke to the personnel manager who spoke to me about contracts, pensions, recruiting staff and start dates. I was given a timetable that showed where I would be going, what the staff did in their certain jobs and what times.

I was introduced to the helpdesk team who answer customer calls and log copier breakdowns. After, I was introduced to the finance controller who showed me what she does in her job, which is checking contact details.

On my second day at ITEC, I was shown the other aspects of finance like the accountancy and the purchase ledger that purchases invoices and does statements. I was briefly with the data team who overlook the contracts, then at the end of the day I was with the SOP team who order machines and handle the paperwork.

On my third day, I saw the daily routine of an internal IT technician who updates software and provides help to all of those with computer problems. I was then in the warehouse where I was given the orders of parts of photocopiers which I then had to put the addresses into the system and print the labels to be able to ship them.

On my fourth day, I was introduced to the marketing team which broadcast stuff about the ITEC company on apps like Twitter and Facebook, they also manage the official ITEC website. I also returned back to the finance and helpdesk team.

Overall, my experience at ITEC was eye-opening and I was given a good insight into the office environment, which has given me thoughts about what I am going to do in the future.
